105th Blog Entry

OOPS!!! I missed my 100th entry by a few . . . I guess I wasn't really paying attention!

I have to say that this blogging experience is truly an enriching one, for my life! Not only do I get to share, vent, praise and opine all on the internet, for the world to see, but I also get to re-connect with old friends, because of my presence here! That's pretty cool!

The last year has been a challenge -- but aren't they all, in some way, shape or form?? I only hope that I will be better equipped, next year, to deal with all the challenges that come along, because of what I have learned this year!

And, if you care to notice, this year has meant MORE blog entries than last year! I guess I am really getting the hang of this!

"Lifted" and other random scrappy thoughts. . . .

My friend, Michelle, has written a book. And, not just any book -- It is titled "Lifted", and it is an incredibly inspiring collection of scrapbook pages, with lots of ideas! (http://www.papertherapy.com/ - That's her website, for more information!)

Anywho - she is doing book signings, all over the valley, at a scrapbook store near you! And, at the Paper Vineyard (http://www.papervineyard.com/ervineyard.com/) she did a Late Nighter Lift contest. It was sooooooo fun!!! Between the owner, the two sales clerks and Michelle, they couldn't pick winners, so us contestants had to actually vote on the winners.

Here is my entry:

I "lifted" a DARLING page that Michelle did of her brother and her daughter. The layout was completely inspirational for me, as I didn't know what I wanted to do with the photos from my niece's graduation night! Thanks Michelle, for being so willing to share your talents with us!

Also, I am working on Tina's Christmas cards, but have been working on other random scrapbook pages as well. I'm trying to think of a way to make money doing what I love, but my limited brainstorming time slows down the process!

Here are some other things that I have been working on:

Tina's custom Birthday card . . . just her style!

This layout has been 18 months in the making! These photos were taken 2 years ago, by Jackie Lindfors (see her blog listed to the right!!), and I have just barely pulled this together! I am going to hang this on my "A to Z" photo wall - (Their last name starts with "A" and mine starts with "Z", so it will be a wall of family . . . get it???) and is my first project for that wall!
Of course, once my mom and my sister, the mother of these cuties, saw this layout they both whined, "I WANT THIS FOR MY WALL!!"
You know what they say . . . . "Christmas is coming!!" wink, wink!

Then, this little guy turned 2 on Sept 3, 2008, and I am just getting around to scrappin' his birth! I've been slackin'!!

And, last, but certainly not least - These 2 cute nieces of mine worked at Sunsplash together, for the summer of 2007. I had to record this moment in history, one Saturday morning, when I was their taxi for the day! How cute are they???

Lest We Forget . . .

Where were you when the world stopped turning,
That September day?
-- Alan Jackson

I will never forget that day -- and I hope that one day, sooner than later, we can, as citizens of the USA, pull together again, BEFORE another tragedy strikes. Regardless of political party, religious affiliation, skin color or nationality. "One nation, under God . . ."

One Universal Truth

I am so amazingly grateful for one universal truth -- regardless of our specific religious beliefs, our national origin, or our current financial status, God loves all of His children, and has given them an incredible gift. It is freedom to choose, call it free will, free agency, or right to believe, whatever terminology best fits your life. But it is truly wonderful, to have that gift!
Now, I understand that not all countries, nations and principalities allow their citizens to excersize this God-given right, but I am truly blessed to live in a nation that is based upon this gift of freedom.
I am waxing so philosophical about this for a number of reasons, but the one hot topic right now is election time. Not only are we looking for someone new to sit in the big white house in Washington DC, but there are also many issues up for vote this November.
The other night, I heard a man talk about a conversation he had had with his granddaughter, who recently turned 18. He was explaining to her that she needed to register to vote, so that she could vote on a specific issue, and, he told her, "we need your vote!"
As he explained to her both sides of the issue that he was referring to, she said, "well, that isn't the way that I would vote!" His response? "I'm not gonna talk to her, with that kind of attitude!!"
So, my understanding of his response is "I'm not going to talk to(read accept, respect, admire or even possibly love)you if you don't vote the way I do" or in other words, "My way, or no way!" Sorry to disappoint you, sir, but this country and even the belief system that I maintain in my life, allows for EACH AND EVERY PERSON to choose for themselves! That means I get to vote for who or whatever I want! I get to make choices for ME!
Which is the other side of this "free will" coin -- MY choices, I will answer for them! Nobody else will be accountable for my choices, whether the choice is who to elect as president of the United States or whether I eat some delicious, cilantro-laden salsa! Not to say that my choices won't affect others, but I will be the only one that has to answer for them!
I guess that is part of what truly maturing is all about. And, no, I'm not patting myself on the back, but I have just learned that I can't make ANYONE be what I want them to be. They have to want the best for themselves! And my job, as a human being and a daughter of a loving Father in Heaven, is to try and love others the way He loves me, and help others get through this crazy little time called "Life".
Go vote, in November! And if you wanna vote for Mickey Mouse for President, do it! Just excersize your freedom and let your voice be heard! I love the saying "Evil prevails when good men do nothing". I'm not sure who said that, but I strongly believe it! To make a difference, we have to DO SOMETHING!
Okay, putting the soapbox away . . . but, it had to be said!
